University of Virginia's Facilities Management (FM) Housing Zone is seeking an Electrician/Electrician Senior Assistant . Electricians provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings. The selected candidate must have written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with the ability to interpret and work from blueprints. An ELECTRICIAN SENIOR ASSISTANT assists Electricians and works independently as appropriate, cleans job sites, trains on more advanced installations and emergency repairs, and follows all customer service and safety protocols. A high school diploma is required with a minimum of four years of related experience. The incumbent hired at this level will be considered for promotion once they have attained the required experience and licensure for the next level. A valid driver's license is also required. An ELECTRICIAN performs journey level installation, repair, and maintenance work on electrical systems and equipment in buildings, including emergency backup systems, alarms, and life-support equipment. They receive orders from the supervisor and perform duties at the job site, receiving some guidance. They can independently determine methods of accomplishing work orders and carry out all phases, but will have more assistance when assigned larger projects. A high school diploma, four years of experience at the journeyman level, and current Journey level electrical license required. Electricians are not to work on any voltage exceeding 600 volts. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties. Physical Demands: The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).The employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
