Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant NICU - UMass Memorial - Worcester, MA

UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center (CMC) is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider to join our team of healthcare professionals and contribute to our overall mission to serve the needs of diverse families in Central Massachusetts through team collaboration.

Our UMass Division of Neonatology provides care to patients within our level III 49-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with patients with a wide range of medical and surgical needs. Our collaborative work force is comprised of advanced practice providers, pediatric residents, neonatal perinatal fellows, newborn hospitalists and other multi-disciplinary team members (respiratory therapy, child life, dietary, occupational and physical therapy). We additionally provide care in two level II community special care nurseries.

Direct Clinical Care:

  • Provide neonatal care to critically ill newborns in the Level 3 UMass Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and newborns needing intermediate level care and well-baby care in our affiliate level 2 community special care nurseries
  • Partner with physicians regarding proposed plan of care. Physicians work in-house alongside APPs in the UMass Level 3 NICU and as a back-up consultation at our affiliate level 2 community special care nurseries (immediately by phone and within driving distance for in-person)
  • Attend high risk deliveries with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Attend high risk infant transports
  • Perform procedures including intubations, lumbar punctures, chest tubes, and central lines.
  • Collaborate with multi-specialty medical teams including maternal fetal medicine, pediatric surgery, and an array of other surgical subspecialties

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Participate in division meetings, committees, and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, and quality.
  • Contribute to institutional policies, protocols, and guidelines related to neonatal care.
  • Contribute to medical education, quality improvement and other clinical care

Position Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree and Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Massachusetts license, issued by the Physician Assistant Board, and current NCCPA certification.
  • A Master's degree and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Board Certification by the National Certification Corporation.
  • Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
  • Strong commitment to serving underserved communities, equitable family centered care and diversity and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Early career APPs are encouraged to apply. In-unit learning, mentorship and procedural training provided for new colleagues.
