The Surgical Scheduler schedules patients for surgery, and coordinates operating room schedules of multi-disciplinary, multi-site surgeons. Collaborates with internal and external departments such as OR, New Patient Services, Provider Contracting, Admitting Departments, Utilization Review Departments, clinic schedulers, pre-operative clinic staff, physicians, midlevel practitioners, vendors, and departmental secretaries.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Coordinate surgery cases and outpatient procedures based on doctors OR block time schedules and clinic schedules.
  • Counsel patients concerning scheduled surgery, financial obligation and provide patients with estimates related to surgeon fees.
  • Request authorization and/or pre-certification from health plans prior to scheduled surgery.
  • Arrange for assistant surgeon coverage, including midlevel practitioners, and proctorship coverage as needed.
  • Secure all vendor equipment requests for surgery as directed by physician.
  • Schedule pre-op appointments including labs, EKGs, imaging or any ancillary services.
  • Ensure all clearances requested by provider are received prior to the surgery date.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • High school diploma
  • Two years or more of work experience in a medical environment
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Working knowledge of managed care and understanding of HMO, HMO Capitation, PPO, POS and third-party carriers
  • Professional attitude in dealing with visitors, physicians, company executives/representatives and/or Board Members
  • Experience handling conflicts with patients and patients' families
  • EPIC Cadence EMR experience preferred
